A simple pre-ride bike check for better weekend miles

A great ride often starts before the first pedal stroke. A simple pre-ride check only takes a few minutes, but it can save time, stress, and avoidable problems once you are out on the road.

Start with tire pressure. Make sure it suits your weight, tire size, and riding conditions. Then check the brakes for a firm feel and make sure both wheels spin cleanly without rubbing. Shift through the gears briefly to confirm everything feels smooth and predictable.

Look over the cockpit too. Make sure the bar tape feels secure, the bars are aligned, and nothing has worked loose since the last ride. Small details at the front of the bike have a big effect on confidence once the pace picks up.

This habit does not need to be complicated. It just needs to be consistent. A calm two-minute check can make the rest of the ride feel faster, safer, and much more enjoyable.
